Lori Jean Carroll was born on August 3, 1960, to Robert and Vivien (Johnson) Carroll in Balaton, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, where she grew up and attended Public Schools, graduating in 1978. She was a member of the high school volleyball team and was an honor student. She later attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. In her younger years, Lori enjoyed roller skating, dancing, and attending concerts.
On July 28, 1984, Lori married Ken Edwin Amundson in Golden, Colorado. The couple made their home in Colorado before moving to Sacramento, California in 1987, where both were transferred with Broadband Technology–Lori serving as an office manager and Ken as a supervisor. In July of 2011, they returned to Tracy to be closer to family. Together they shared 33 years of marriage and raised two children, Michael and Ashley, whom Lori loved deeply and fiercely. On September 20, 2011, Ken passed away at the age of 54.
Lori later returned to California after Ashley graduated in 2016. Shortly after this move, she met Michael Defillo, who became her loving companion and devoted partner and caregiver for nine years. Together they built a beautiful life filled with faith, love, and purpose.
Lori enjoyed feeding the deer, attending church, antiquing, and retail–where she found joy in fashion, people, and connection. This passion led Lori and Michael to open their own children’s store, where they sold and gave away clothing and toys. Giving back to the community and helping others brought Lori so much happiness.
Lori was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 29 and lived courageously with the disease for 36 years. After enduring many years of MS and its complications, Lori passed away peacefully in her home on January 28, 2026 due to complications from this disease.
She is survived by her loving companion, Michael Defillo of Redding, California; her son, Michael (Gloria) Amundson of Chico, California; her daughter, Ashley (Hayden) Sanders of Tracy, Minnesota; her brother, Gary (Sally) Carroll of Vancouver, Washington; her sisters, Marlene Halfmann of Tracy, Minnesota, and Diane (John) Woodhall of Spicer, Minnesota; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Amundson, her parents, and her in-laws.
Blessed be her memory. Lori will be remembered as an incredible partner, devoted mother, loving sister, and cherished friend.
