Lisbeth “Liz” Schroeder

MARSHALL–Mass of Christian Burial for Lisbeth “Liz” Schroeder, 88, of Marshall, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Remembrance Center. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

Lisbeth Antonia “Liz” Schroeder was born on December 2, 1937, on the family farm in Hawk Creek Township, rural Sacred Heart, to Thorvald and Lena (Gayowski) Thorsrud. She grew up in Sacred Heart and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Her connection to Sacred Heart remained strong over the years and Liz organized and attended most school reunions. On November 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Walter Schroeder at St. Mary’s Chapel in Marshall. The couple made their home and raised their family in Marshall. Liz worked for the family business in many ways including bookkeeping: Walt Schroeder Painting and Decorating and later Marshall Decorating Center.

Family was the most important part of Liz’ life. She enjoyed following her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed connecting with people and was very diligent with acknowledging birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions with friends and family alike. She maintained relationships with people she met over a casual conversation, friends of her children and family and many others. She was a very gracious host and made her home a warm place for many gatherings. For more than 20 years, Liz dealt with COPD and Emphysema. Her illness was difficult over time, especially as her physical limitations interfered with her connection to friends and family.

Liz died on Saturday, January 24, 2026, under hospice care at her home in Marshall. She is survived by her husband, Walt Schroeder, children Carrie (Rick) Wersal, Douglas Schroeder, Todd Schroeder, John (Alexis) Schroeder, Kelly Schroeder (and Buddy Scroggins); grandchildren Jeff Wersal, Jessica Wersal Pack (Taylor), Sara Schroeder and Ryan Schroeder, Emily Knutson (John); great-grandchildren Alisha Wersal Harberts (Jamon), Morgen Wersal, Julia Pack, Alexandra Wersal, Jillian Pack, June Pack, Tyler and Charlie Knutson; great-great-grandchildren Peyton Harberts, Emma Harberts; sister Ruth Mulenburg, sister-in-law Patricia Lustfield, sister-in-law Donna Schroeder, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Thorvald Thorsrud, one infant daughter, brother Lee Thorsrud, in-laws Vern Mulenburg, Godelieve Schroeder and Cyril Schroeder, Don (Ellen) Schroeder, Dave (Eldora) Schroeder, Cyril Schroeder and others.
