Daniel “Dan” Labat

GREEN VALLEY–Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel “Dan” Labat, 75, of Green Valley, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at the church. Interment will take place at St. Clotilde Catholic Cemetery in Green Valley, MN.

Daniel Henry Labat was born on July 14, 1950, in Marshall, MN, the fifth of 11 children born to Henry and Emmerence “Rose” (DeVos) Labat. He grew up in the Marshall area and attended Holy Redeemer grade school before graduating from Marshall High School in 1968.

On July 27, 1968, he married his highschool sweetheart, Sandra Bjornebo, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Dan learned to drive truck from his father on the farm and always said he drove more miles than you can count. He was employed by Kelco, then moved to Minneapolis for work at Onan Generators before moving back to Marshall for jobs at Southwest Wholesale Grocery, Murphy Freight, Floyd Wild Trucking and Bradley Trucking before retiring. Dan then worked under Sandy at West Side Grade School doing dishes. He was proud of all the jobs he had and also the fact that he had been in all 50 states. He enjoyed fishing, camping, cards and playing dress up with brother-in-law and best friend, Howard as “The Burlap Sisters” and being in the garage crushing cans with the music and fireplace going.

Dan died on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his residence in Green Valley, MN, after reaching the age of 75 years, six months and seven days. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Labat of Green Valley, son Todd (Marie) Labat of Hibbing, MN, daughter LuAnn (Ron) Springer of Millville, MN, son William “BJ” (Alyssa) Labat of Green Valley; grandchildren Amanda (Taylor) Varpness , Sara Springer, Brendan and Mia Labat; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Avery, Emma and Piper Varpness; siblings Gordon (Bernadette) Labat, of Phoenix, AZ, Pauline “Putz” Serreyn of Green Valley, Duke Labat of Wagner, OK, Greg (Marilyn) Labat of Marshall, Larry (LaVonne) Labat of Green Valley, Mary Hoflock of Marshall, Deb Picht of Marshall, sister-in-law Cheryl Labat of Sioux Falls, SD, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donnie Labat, sister Judy Labat, brother Tom Labat, brothers-in-law Howard Serreyn, Randy Picht, Gary Hoflock, sisters-in-law Phyllis Labat, Janet Labat and Carol Labat.
