Marilyn Lund
MARSHALL–Marilyn Lund, age 81, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Prairie Senior Cottages in New Richland, Minnesota. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. next Tuesday, January 6, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will be in the Marshall Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at the church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. The evening will conclude with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will then continue one hour prior to her celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. next Tuesday, at the church. Marilyn Jean Peterson was born on September 28, 1944, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Bennet and Amalia (Nietzel) Peterson. Marilyn was baptized as an infant at the Bethany Lutheran Church of rural Morgan and was later confirmed there in her youth. She attended school in Morgan and graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1962. She went on to attend Mankato State University and was proud to finish top of her class as she studied teaching and English. Marilyn then taught German for a few years in Jackson, Minnesota. She would later go on to earn her master’s degree in Library Science, also through Mankato State.
On June 15, 1973, Marilyn was united in marriage to John Earl Theodore Lund at First Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Marshall and raised two sons, Matt and Mark. Marilyn began with the Marshall High School library but soon transitioned to the elementary school where she served as librarian and ran the district’s elementary library program for many years prior to her retirement. She was a proud member of the Sons of Norway, Extension, the Peace Circle group, Table of Eight, book clubs, and the Minnesota Association of School Librarians.
Marilyn’s enjoyments in life included playing the piano, reading books, sewing, and collecting nativity scenes. She was a devoted church member where she sang in the choir and often played the piano. Marilyn was a very organized person who committed herself to helping her family through just about any situation.
Marilyn Lund died peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025. She reached the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 29 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her sons, Matt (and Karilyn) Lund of Coon Rapids, Mark (and Hope) Lund of Garner, IA; 5 grandchildren, Ian Lund, Ila Lund, Eleanor Lund, Dorothy Lund, Henry Lund; 3 siblings, Donald (and Fay) Peterson, David (and Bev) Peterson, Diane Olson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bennet and Amalia Peterson; husband, John Lund; and brother-in-law, Norris Olson.
