Gary Hugh Roberts was born on July 18, 1939, in Marshall, Minnesota. He was the son of Henry and Emma (Lee) Roberts. Gary was baptized as an infant, received first communion, and was confirmed in his youth at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. After graduating from high school with the class of 1958, Gary worked some construction jobs and soon got his start with auto body repair.
On June 30, 1962, Gary was united in marriage to Sylvia Sanow at the Church of Christ in Tracy, Minnesota. The couple made their home back in Marshall and raised their three boys: Brian, Bradley, and Shawn. Gary spent over 44 years doing auto body repair and owned his own business, Ghent Auto Body, for 20 years. He also spent time with Marshall Truck and Trailer and Kesteloot Enterprises prior to his retirement.
Gary served as past president of the Marshall Baseball Association and held roles as trustee and deacon at both the Marshall Church of Christ and Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall (what is now Radiant Life). His enjoyments in life included watching all sorts of events like wrestling, the Marshall As, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and every event that involved one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren, he would attend in person. Gary enjoyed family time together during Sunday dinners where he often was the one to “doctor up” the cooking and grilling. He was also an avid bowler in years past, at one time playing in seven leagues at the same time! As his work would indicate, Gary also had a fondness for nice vehicles – both old and new.
Gary Roberts died under the care of Hospice and surrounded by his family in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on December 3, 2025. He reached the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Blessed be his memory.
