MARSHALL–Wayne Hanson, age 80, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Presbyterian Homes – Maranatha in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall, followed by a luncheon for attendees back in Carlin Hall at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one and a half hours prior to his celebration, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, also at the church. Wayne Robert Hanson was born on January 28, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of Robert and Marcella (Matanowski) Hanson. Wayne grew up in Richfield, Minnesota, and he was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth in the Christian faith. He graduated with a degree in Accounting from the University of MN Twin Cities campus. Post college Wayne lived in Robbinsdale, Crystal and Columbia Heights while working for Pako.

In 1979 Wayne moved to Marshall to begin his career with Running’s. On April 5, 1980, Wayne was united in marriage to Janet Janicke and the couple made their home in Marshall where Wayne continued his accounting career at the Running’s corporate office. The couple spent over 38 years of marriage together prior to her death in 2019. Just last year Wayne moved to Boulder Estates and as his cancer battle intensified, he recently moved to a care facility near his daughters in Brooklyn Park.

Wayne always liked to stay busy. He volunteered his time and donated regularly. He enjoyed A slice of pepperoni pizza, playing cribbage, bridge, other card games, golf, and used to be an active bowler. Wayne collected coins, traveled extensively, spent a lot of time in his garden, and always had an eye out for birds.

Wayne Hanson died peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 30 days. Blessed be his memory.

Wayne is survived by his children, John Kerkela of Minneota, Zoe (and Brett) Hildreth of Minneapolis, Jean Hanson of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Dallas Kerkela, Hunter Kerkela, Briana Hildreth, Sarah Hildreth, Christian Curfman; great-granddaughter, Neveah Kerkela; brother, Dean (and Diane) Hanson; brother-in-law, Don Hoglund; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marcella Hanson; wife, Janet Hanson; and a sister, Patti Hoglund.
