Jean Hocum

CANBY–Jean Hocum, age 81, of Canby, Minnesota passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby. Interment will be in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Granite Falls. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church in Canby.
Jean LaVaughn Hocum was born March 27, 1944 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Raymond and Bette (Mills) Moen. She grew up and attended school in Albert Lee and Alden.
Jean met Daniel Hocum and the couple was wed March 30, 1962, in Maynard. The couple made their home in Maynard and Granite Falls before living in Canby for the last 40 years. They were blessed with three children, Wendy, Joseph, and Anne.
Jean worked in home health while living in Granite Falls and as a machine operator in Montevideo. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, cooking and baking. She had many recipes that she was known for, and her family loved her cooking. Jean also enjoyed sewing, gardening, helping her grandkids with projects, and loved her family deeply.
Jean is survived by her husband, Daniel of Canby; children, Wendy (Kevin) Ilaug of Dawson, Joseph Hocum of Canby; grandchildren, Karin Ilaug, Danielle Ilaug, Kevin Ilaug Jr., Neil Ilaug, Gena Smith, Beth Smith, Jason Smith, Jacob Smith; great-grandchild, Kailur Ilaug-Waddell; siblings, Donna Haneca, Vicky (Roger) Lavoie, Billy Moen, Mike Moen, Tommy Moen, Bobby Moen, Mark Moen; as well as other family and friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Bette; daughter, Anne Smith; great-grandchild, Kameryn Adrian; brothers, John (Clare) Moen, Jerry Moen, Jackie Moen, Butch Moen, Randy Moen; brother-in-law, Ray Haneca; in-laws, Warren and Ann Hocum.
