Corwin Douglas Peterson

Dec. 21, 1950-June 7, 2024

Corwin Douglas Peterson, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024. He was born December 21, 1950 in Tyler, MN to parents Vernon and Shirley. Corwin proudly held the title of #3 in a family of 12 children, 8 girls and 4 boys. He learned the value of family and hard work early, and when asked about his childhood would often just say “I don’t know- we were busy farming!” Growing up in Marshall, MN, his family moved to Wendell, MN his junior year of high school. The Peterson farm remains there today.

At the age of 18, Corwin volunteered for the United States Marine Corps. Stationed in Vietnam, he served honorably. Though he never boasted about his time in the service, Corwin’s stoic bravery was evident for the rest of his life. Returning to the states he spent time in HI, CO, AZ, and eventually put down roots in Boise, ID. There he fell in love with his beautiful and patient wife, Lorinda. After dating for 9 years, Corwin and Lorinda tied the knot in 1983 and had two daughters, Paige and Taylor. By his example they learned a zest for life, a thirst for knowledge, a fierce independence and joy of adventure.

Corwin started his construction company in 1975. Close with his brothers, he had business partnerships with them in both farming and construction. Corwin kept one foot in farming, traveling back to MN to harvest, and the other foot knee-deep in concrete work in ID. In business for nearly 50 years, the Treasure Valley became dotted with his work. With colleagues and friends, he created The Best in the West Pig Fest. Starting as a company party in the backyard, it progressed to an annual camping trip including scores of families and friends, lasting 40 years. Corwin left a “work hard, play hard” legacy through the connections he made, and the work that he did. In later years, he became a Boise State Football fanatic, finding any excuse to drive his BSU party bus. He logged thousands of miles driving to away games, taking anyone who would get on board. He loved making friends tailgating and driving his grandkids in the homecoming parade.

Corwin’s battle with kidney failure began at the age of 35. In 1995, his sister Lisa gifted him a life saving kidney transplant. However, by 2020, a long 4 years of hospital visits began. He charmed every doctor and nurse he met and enjoyed learning everyone’s names and life stories. His favorite nurse of all was his ever-present Lorinda. Her tireless support, devotion, and service was inspiring to anyone who knew them. While he maintained a sense of humor and a bullish attitude until the very end, we are thankful his pain is finally gone and he can rest.

Corwin loved a party, to tell a good story, make a new friend, and to giggle his infectious giggle. With a life marked by dedication, humor and an unwavering spirit, he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by Lorinda; Paige (husband Andrew and children Oliver, Dashiell, and Violet); Taylor; his clan of brothers and sisters; nephews; nieces; friends; and acquaintances that will remember him fondly. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Shirley, who will be happy to see him.

Military Honors will be performed at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. on August 22, 2024. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will follow at 2 p.m. at Water’s Edge Event Center in Eagle, ID.
