Milo “Mike” McClain

LYND–Milo “Mike” McClain, age 85, of Lynd, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his residence under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Following a reception at the church, interment will be at the Lynd City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. The evening will conclude with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to his celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, also at the church. Milo Bert McClain was born on September 29, 1938, on the family farm near Russell, Minnesota. He was the son of Jacob Howard and Dorothy (Hostetler) McClain. Mike was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. He attended school in Marshall as well, graduating with the high school class of 1956. Mike went on to work various jobs including a fruit stand which brought him, on a part-time basis, to Montevideo, Minnesota. It was there that he met his future wife, Ms. Diane Rud.

Mike and Diane were married on April 2, 1960, at Jevnaker Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo. The couple made their home briefly in Marshall before moving to their current home in Lynd. They have lived there since February of 1962 and raised their daughters there. The couple shared over 64 years of marriage together.

Mike worked initially for SuperValu before becoming a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 25 years. After retiring from the Post Office, he drove motor coach for Ram Tour and Travel for 8 years. He also did some part time work for Schwan’s and for Southwest Dairy before he fully retired.

Mike was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Marshall. His enjoyments in life included participating in all family events, woodworking, whittling wood, cutting and splitting firewood, hunting, fishing, camping, time spent at their lake home on Big Stone Lake, and watching the Minnesota Twins. He and Diane also spent many winters traveling together in the southern United States.

Mike McClain died peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home. He had reached the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Blessed be his memory.

He is survived by his wife, Diane McClain of Lynd; 2 daughters, Colleen (and Peter) Forster of Balsam Lake, WI, Pam (and Bart) Petray of Carlisle, AR; 6 grandchildren, Ashley (and Kirk) Nagel, Brittany (and Josh) Williams, Josh (and Savanna) Forster, Michelle Forster, Megan (and Jonathan) Holt, Blake Petray; 14 great-grandchildren, Aidan Nagel, Alec Nagel, Ashton Nagel, Addison Williams, Jet Bosak, Etta Bosak, Gabriella Forster, Anthony Forster, Gemmah Delcourt, Tyler Delcourt, Coral Annabelle Forster, Haidyn Holt, Logan Holt, McKenzie Holt; siblings, Richard McClain of Marshall, Judy Eischens of Canby; sister-in-law, Bev McClain of Garretson, SD; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy McClain; great-grandson, Theo Petray; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley McClain, Jerry McClain.
