WABASSO — Mass of Christian Burial for Alvin Elmer Hammerschmidt, 92, of Wabasso will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church Thursday. Burial will be in the St. Anne Catholic Cemetery rural Wabasso. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. He died peacefully Saturday, April 13, 2024, in the comforting presence of his family at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1931, on the family farm in Vail Township, Redwood County, to John and Agnes (Havel) Hammerschmidt. He entered the U.S. Army, where he served during the Korean War, working on generators. He received his honorable discharge after two years.

Survivors include his wife, Lila; sons, Jim of Mankato and Ron of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Leonard of Redwood Falls.
