Carsten Arthur Burros passed away peacefully on August 28th at the age of 87 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo. Carsten was born on September 8th, 1935 to Lawrence Burros and Ella Bakken Burros at his grandfather's, Terje Bakken, family farmhouse in rural Lund Township near Evansville, MN. Carsten grew up among a caring extended family, learning Christian values and love for others. Evansville was a place where he enjoyed life on the farm as well as hunting, fishing, and playing sports, which he did with his close cousin, Harlan, since they could walk.
He graduated from Evansville High School in 1953. Carsten entered the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 serving as an artillery man. He married Barbara Lee Wright in 1960 in Grand Meadow, MN and shortly after, he began his studies at the University of Minnesota. He graduated in 1965 with a degree in Fish and Wildlife Biology. A position with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources brought him to Marshall, MN where he saved countless wetlands, planted native vegetation & thousands of trees. While in Marshall he raised his three children and was active with the Masons, Shriners, Jaycees, Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, and Wesley United Methodist Church. Carsten joined Wilson O'Brien as a partner in 1971 where he practiced real estate and did appraisals until his retirement in 1997.
From there, Carsten and Barbara moved full time to their cabin home on Lake Belle Taine in Nevis, MN where he enjoyed the lake life and the beauty that each of the seasons brought to them. Carsten was proud of his Norwegian heritage and he made sure lutefisk and lefse were always served at Christmas. He took a sincere interest in people and could always strike up a conversation with a stranger. He enjoyed going to Gopher football games and faithfully followed all Minnesota sports. Carsten learned the game of golf while caddying in Alexandria as a teen and became an avid golfer, even club champion. He loved learning new things and taking up hobbies such as harvesting wild rice at his beloved Mud Lake Camp, and making maple syrup. He, also, enjoyed a good game of cribbage.
Carsten was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife, Barbara, his son Erik and his wife Trish of Portland, OR, his son Chris and his wife Michelle of Minneapolis, MN and his daughter Sara Becker and her husband Joel of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren Laura and her husband Ramsey, Benjamin, Maxwell, Brian, Brenna, Simon, Sophie and his great granddaughter, Kaylani. A celebration of life will be held at Cease Funeral home in Park Rapids on October 21st at 11:00 a.m. Visitation is 1 hour prior to the service.
His charities were Shriners Children's Hospital and Boys Town of Nebraska.
