IVANHOE — Blaine Kurth, 85, of Ivanhoe, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Luther Manor Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 at Bethany Elim Lutheran Church in Ivanhoe, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the East Elim Cemetery, Ivanhoe, MN. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Hendricks is entrusted with arrangements.

Wesley Blaine Harlene Kurth was born on March 30, 1938 in Hendricks, MN to Wesley and Bernice (Nelson) Kurth. Blaine was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Shaokatan Township Church. He attended New Grove County School and then graduated from Hendricks High School in 1956. Directly after graduation he enlisted in the US Army. While in the army, Blaine also attended the University of Chicago. After serving two years he was honorably discharged.

Blaine married his high school sweetheart, Donna Mae Lovestand on April 26, 1958. They began their life together in Minneapolis, MN before moving to Ivanhoe, MN where they lived 63 years. Blaine was the Branch Manager for Production Credit Association for over 25 years. He then started Kurth Tax Service and worked until his retirement.

Blaine was very active in the Ivanhoe Community and his church, with special involvement within the local VFW, Community Club, Lions Club, Shriners, and the Ivanhoe Fire Department. Blaine was very proud of his country. He and grandson Chad were part of the Veterans Honor Flight visiting Washington D.C. on May 7, 2019. Very recently, Blaine was presented with a Veterans Quilt of Valor.

Blaine was extremely proud of his three children and five grandchildren. He supported and enjoyed attending all their high school and college activities. He spent time golfing, hunting, bowling, and playing softball. Blaine also enjoyed spending time at his lake home with friends and family.

Blaine is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna (Lovestrand) Kurth, Sioux Falls, SD; children: Brad (Judi) Kurth, Wilmar, AL, Cami Veire and former son-in-law Jeff Veire of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kevin (Kelli) Kurth, Marshall, MN; grandchildren: Chad (Kristen) Veire and great-grandson Lincoln, Sioux Falls, SD, Chelsey Veire and Travis Johnson of Rogers, MN, Ashley Kurth, Wilmar, AL, Molly (Caleb) Tschetter, Rapid City, SD, Zachary Kurth, Marshall, MN, sister Marcy McCarthy of Stacy, MN; sister-in law, Sylvia Kurth, Lake Benton, MN and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Blaine is preceded in death by parents, Wesley and Bernice; brother-in-law, John McCarthy; brother, David; two nephews: Todd and Brett Kurth, and mother and father-in-law, Raymond and Merl Lovestrand.
