Shirley Smith

Shirley Marie (Demuth) Smith was born on September 11, 1945, to Francis and Dorothy (Gemelke) Demuth in Tyler and grew up on a farm near Lynd. Shirley worked in Marshall for a bit after high school and then lived and worked at Yellowstone National Park, Timberline Ski Lodge in Mt Hood, OR and California before settling in Hawaii for a couple of years. Shirley met Dennis Smith in Hawaii and moved to Hollywood, FL where they married and had their only child, Christopher Robin in 1967. They later divorced. Shirley raised her son on her own and was known by many of Christopher’s friends and cousins as the “Cool and hip” mom.

Shirley met and married Joe Sienko in 1981 and then later divorced. She waitressed for many years but later settled into Insurance Sales and was known as a very hard worker her whole life. She loved the ocean and enjoyed sailing, reading, and traveling.

Shirley passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Trustbridge Hospice in Pompano Beach, FL.

Shirley is survived by her only child, Christopher (Mikala) Smith, grandsons, Jaxson and Jamison of Shakopee and Jared of San Jose, CA. Siblings, Mary Ann (Wayne) Krull of Tyler, Larry (Rosemary) Demuth of Lynd, Randy (Bonnie) Demuth of Sioux Falls, SD, Ronald (Alice) Demuth of Russell and Patrick (Lynette) Demuth of Worthington.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sibling, Michael “Mick” Demuth.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life and luncheon will be held at Camden State Park, North Pavilion, 1897 Camden Park Road, Lynd, MN 56157 on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Immediately following, she’ll be laid to rest at Russell Cemetery.
