Sheila R. Anderson

1952-2023

A funeral service for Sheila R. Anderson will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 11, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mankato.

Sheila died peacefully at home in Fort Myers, Florida on Jan. 5, 2023 at the age of 70.

Sheila was born in 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska, to Lillian and Ted Folkerts. Her father was in the U.S. Air Force, so much of her youth was spent living in various locations around the world, such as Spain, Germany, Texas, Oregon, Nevada, and Minnesota. She spent 11th grade in Marshall, MN,where she met her future husband, Michael (Mike) and graduated in Las Vegas, NV in 1970.

In 1973 Sheila married Mike Anderson in Colorado Springs, CO immediately following his graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy. Her husband’s military career would take them all over the world living in many locations such as Lubbock, Texas; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Rammstein, Germany; Tampa, Florida; Emery, South Dakota; Las Vegas, Nevada; Burlington, Vermont; and San Antonio, Texas. For most of her life she was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker where she raised her only son, Michael and supported her husband’s career. While living in San Antonio she spent a few years teaching at a school for deaf students.

Following her husband’s retirement from the military they continued to move around to different locations due to family, personal, and career choices. These included: South Lake, Texas; Hendricks, Minnesota; Marshall, Minnesota; Saint Paul, Minnesota; Fort Myers Beach, Florida; Portland, Maine; and finally retiring in Fort Myers, Florida.

Sheila was a dedicated wife and mother and placed family second only to God. She was a devout Christian who studied the Bible and conducted her life according to its teachings. Those who knew her know that she was always kind, slow to anger, quick to forgive, selfless, generous, and full of love.

Her favorite things to do were being with her two grandsons, especially when they visited her in Florida, reading, researching and connecting the family tree, visiting with family and friends, and praying.

Sheila is preceded in death by her parents Ted and Lillian. She is survived by her brother Rodney, sister Sonja, husband Mike, son Michael (Carrie), and her two grandsons Endre and Lars.
