Brook Hurt

WOOD LAKE — Services for Brook Hurt, 28, of Wood Lake will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Interment will follow in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Cottonwood. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. The evening will conclude with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will then continue again at the church on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of his service at 11 a.m. Family requests that attendees dress casually, flannels and blue jeans are appropriate and will be welcomed. Thank you.
Brook died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at his home.
Brook Michael Hurt was born March 7, 1994, to James and Heather (Heise) Hurt in Marshall. He grew up living in both Minneota and Cottonwood. He was baptized as an infant at hope Lutheran Church in Minneota and spent most of his education in the Minneota schools. After high school, Brook went to work with his father and brother where he developed his welding skills.
In 2011 Brook met Jasmine Schroer while ice fishing and their relationship has produced three wonderful children. He and Jasmine were united in marriage on Sept. 26, 2015, by Lake Shetek. The couple made their home in Cottonwood for a few years before moving their family to their current house in Wood Lake three years ago.
Brook’s enjoyments in life included fishing, target shooting, riding his motorcycle, grilling, and playing Xbox or Call of Duty on PC. Most of his spare time was spent outdoors hunting and he also cherished time with his children.
Brook is survived by his wife, Jasmine Hurt of Wood Lake; 3 children, Hunter Hurt, Kyson Hurt, and Kinsley Hurt all of Wood Lake; parents, Jim and Heather Hurt of Wood Lake; mother-in-law, Tammy (and Russ) Gilley of Wood Lake; father-in-law, David Schroer (and Melisa Dallenbach) of Balaton; siblings, Brandon Hurt of Wood Lake, Taylor Hurt (and Chenoa Masters) of Wood Lake, Jade Hurt of Wood Lake, Ashlynn Heise of Wood Lake, Kyler Hurt of Wood Lake, Chelsea (and Jake) Nehring of Montevideo; grandparents, Linda Heise of Cottonwood, John and Barb Hurt of Porter; nephews and niece, Landyn Heise of Wood Lake, Mason and Taryn Stock of Montevideo; aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dennis Heise; great-grandma, Arvilla Berg; and uncle, Todd Berg.
