She was born May 22, 1953, in Tyler, to Merle and Marie (Sandager) Muckala. She grew up on a family farm near Arco, attending public school in Tyler. She graduated high school in 1971 and attended college at Mankato State University, eventually earning a Bachelors of Nursing degree. In 1975, Kathryn married the love of her life Keith David Serie at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler. She has worked as a Registered Nurse for the Methodist Hospital, Worthington Hospital, and Tyler Hospital. She also worked as a Nurse Educator at Tyler Vocational School in Tyler until 1987 when she accepted a position with the Minnesota Department of Health, a position she held until her retirement in 2018. After retirement, Kathy remained a very active member of the community, serving on the church council, participating in youth group, and playing organ and piano for the church.
Kathy was a lifelong member of the First English Lutheran Church. She served faithfully, filling many roles in the church throughout her life. She loved music, both listening and playing, and shared her talents with her community in many different ways. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, learning about history, and boating. Her favorite thing to do, though, was spending time with her family and friends. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She demonstrated her compassion to all her knew her and had a very energetic love of life. She will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Keith Serie of Tyler; daughters Jennifer (Greg) Serie of Minneapolis; Kari (Pat) Jackson of Lakewood, Colorado; and Michelle Deutz of Byron; grandchildren David, Joslyn, Lexi, and Hazel; and her siblings Ray, Marilyn, Margaret, and Julie.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Merle and Marie Muckala. Blessed be her memory.
