Thomas Spielmann

MARSHALL — Services for Thomas Spielmann, 69, of Marshall, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Remembrance Center. Interment will follow the service at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Tom passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, at Our House of Murray County Hospice House in Slayton after suffering a number of medical complications alongside his battle with dementia.

Thomas Dean Spielmann was born March 25, 1952, in Marshall, to Sylvester and Naomi Spielmann. He was raised in Marshall with his sisters Vaughn, Vicki, Jeannie, Patti ,and Virginia, who survived just three days. In 1960 the family moved to the country to a small acreage just a few miles from town where Tom had access to the great outdoors. He would frequently recall the Lake Marshall area as his playground growing up, telling stories of hunting and fishing. After graduating from Marshall High School in 1970, Tom attended college at the U of M Crookston for a short time, before returning home.

On April 28, 1979, he was united in marriage to Selma Belsheim. They welcomed two daughters, Shantel and Crystal.

Tom enjoyed anything outdoors, including hunting, fishing, trapping, watching resident wildlife and working with his hands. He enjoyed tinkering and could fix just about anything. Tom lived his entire life in the Marshall area, doing construction and working for many local companies including Schwan’s and ADM and could always be found with a can of Coca Cola in his hand.

He is survived by his daughters Shantel (Andrew) Lozinski of Maynard and Crystal (Preston) Stensrud of Marshall as well as his three grandchildren: Corbin Lozinski, Asher, Beckett and (Keygan) Stensrud. He is also survived by his sister Patti Gertner (Brian Nelson) of Marshall. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Naomi Spielmann, and his sisters, Vaughn (Ken) Nelson, Jeannie (Jeff) Eubanks, Vicki (Gary) Hunter and (infant sister) Virginia Spielmann.

Memorials are preferred. Casual dress is acceptable, as we all know Tom loved blue jeans.
