Jan Lensing

LYND — Mass of Christian Burial for Jan Lensing, 70, of Lynd will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Following a reception, interment will be in the St. Dionysius Catholic Cemetery in Tyler. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.  The evening will begin with a rosary at 4 p.m. and conclude with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  Visitation will continue Friday at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m.

She died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Janice Marie Lensing was born Dec. 1, 1950, in Redwood Falls. She was one of 11 children born to Harold and Phyllis (Rue) Lensing. Jan grew up with her family on farms near Lamberton and Morgan before they moved to Russell. She attended school in Russell graduating in 1968. Jan then boarded a Greyhound Bus for Minneapolis where she would begin her career.

Jan worked a few years with IDS Insurance and then held employment with Blue Cross Blue shield of Minnesota in the printing department. She would work there for 34 years until her retirement in 2002.  Jan then moved back to Lynd and became active in the local school assisting with lunch program. After eight years serving children, she stopped working and helped her mom sort jewelry for the Avera Thrift Shop, beginning in 2010.

Jan was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall and her enjoyments in life included knitting, anything to do with Elvis, and visiting with other people. She loved all children, especially her nieces and nephews, and Jan took pride in caring for her mother in recent years. She was a lifelong camping enthusiast and had a trailer on Long Lake near New London. The Old Wagon Wheel campground became a favorite get away for Jan over the years.

Jan is survived by her mother, Phyllis Lensing of Marshall; 9 siblings, Roger (Lois) Lensing of Porter, Mary Lou (Allen) Lovejoy of Mounds View, Lois VanKeulen, of Champlin, Bob (Mary) Lensing of Russell, Dean Lensing of Richfield, Jo Lensing of Cold Spring, Vicki (Jim) VanDamme, of Russell, Julie Parulski (Bob Przymus) of Ivanhoe, Mark (Nancy) Lensing of St. James; 19 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; 9 great-great-nieces and nephews; many relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Harold Lensing; brother, Dale Lensing; and brother-in-law, Jim VanKeulen.
