Dean Lyle Schentzel, son of Adolf and Evelyn (Schrupp) Schentzel, was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Balaton. He attended and graduated from Balaton High School. Upon graduation, Dean attended Mankato State, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Education. Dean taught math in Olivia, Montgomery, and Sanborn. In 1965, Dean began teaching at the Jackson School, where he taught 7th and 8th grade math, until his retirement in 1993. After retirement Dean worked for Ag Statistic Service, he kept busy doing yardwork at home, and caring for his wife Elaine. Dean met the love of his life Elaine Krueger on Sept. 19, 1964, at a dance at the Blue Moon Ballroom in Marshall. Dean and Elaine were united in marriage on June 19, 1966, at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington. They moved to Jackson shortly after marriage and resided there until 1970.  They then purchased an acreage near Alpha where they made their forever home together. Dean and Elaine were blessed with 4 children, Kevin, Kurt, Kenneth, and Kristin. Dean was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson, where he served as an Elder and Treasurer. In the fall of 2019, Dean moved into the Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn, where he passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Dean was a huge supporter of his children and grandchildren in their school events, from sports, musicals and plays to 4-H and FFA, in which he was a 4-H Club leader, and the Wisconsin Township treasurer. He was active in the community and enjoyed attending supporting the local sports teams, musicals, plays, the summer theater, and the county fairs. Upon retirement Dean and Elaine loved to go on bus tours. Some of the tours were to Branson, Grand Ole Opry, Niagara Falls, and the Black Hills as well as many others. Later on, due to health issues, Dean and Elaine enjoyed the shorter one-day trips. Dean had a positive impact on many children’s lives throughout his teaching career, most importantly his own children. Dean leaves behind a lifetime of memories and love to cherish.

Dean is survived by his children: Kurt (Stephanie) Schentzel of Northville, South Dakota, Ken (Malissa) Schentzel of Farmington, and Kristin Schentzel of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his six grandchildren Logan (fiancé Isabel Blume), Caleb, Zoey, Hannah, MaKenna and Brayden; sister Delores Tolhurst of Balaton; brothers Dennis (Jean) Schentzel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Darrel (Linda) Schentzel of Blaine, Minnesota, along with numerous other relatives.

Dean is preceded in death by his wife Elaine, son Kevin, parents Adolf and Evelyn, brother Darwin, brother-in-law Fred Tolhurst, and sister-in-law Myrna.

Blessed be the memory of Dean Lyle Schentzel.
