Irene Kor

Jan. 9, 1932-May 3, 2021

MARSHALL — Services for Irene Kor, 89, of Marshall will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.  A walk-through visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, also at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.  Interment will follow in the Lynd City Cemetery. Occupancy limits and social distancing must be observed throughout all services. Masks are required at all public indoor gatherings.

She died Monday, May 3, 2021, at Hospice of Murray County in Slayton.

Irene Eda Serreyn was born Jan. 9, 1932, on a farm near Arco, on her sister, Ellen’s, 14th birthday. She was baptized at the St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. Irene moved with her family to Lynd in 1944. Irene graduated from the Lynd High School with the class of 1950 and then worked at Silverberg’s as a cashier and bookkeeper from 1950 to 1952.

Irene was united in marriage to Jullo Kor on Aug. 30, 1952, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. It was a double wedding with Jullo’s brother, Joe, and his bride, Marilyn. The couple started farming outside Marshall and three years later, they moved to Arco and farmed another 12 years prior to selling the farm and moving to Marshall. Irene worked for Kelco Economette for ten years and then for True Value for another eight years prior to her retirement. 

Irene’s enjoyments in life included making quilts, crocheting bedspreads and doilies, gardening, camping, and fishing.  She was a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the DAV Auxiliary. Irene was also a faithful member of Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall since 1952.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Roberta (Pete) Kaiser of Red Lodge, MT; daughter-in-law, Cathy Kor of Lake Wilson; granddaughters, Robin (Brian) Gilbertson of Lake Wilson, Krista (Aimee Dunavant) Kaiser of Albuquerque, NM, Kayde (Jeff) Whiteside of Fairbanks, AK; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Reese Gilbertson of Lake Wilson; siblings, Stanley Serreyn of Marshall, Lillian (Jim) Dale of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Franz and Johanna (Koenck) Serreyn; husband, Jullo just 2 months ago; daughter, Tammy Kor in 1960; son, Robert Kor in 1991; brothers, Henry, Oscar, Elmer, Norman, Albert, Emil, George, LeRoy, Leo; and a sister, Ellen Christensen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avera Marshall Hospice or Hospice of Murray County.
