Marion Gertrude (Lutterman) Swan was born April 9, 1934 in Worthington, to Ube and Martha (White) Lutterman. When she was four, she moved with her family to a farm near Balaton, MN. Marion attended Burchard School through eighth grade and graduated high school from Balaton in 1951. On September 24, 1952, she married Arden Swan at St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler, while he was home on furlough from the Army, while serving in Korea. When he came back to the states they lived in Tacoma, WA, while Arden was stationed at Fort Lewis. Returning to Minnesota in 1954, Arden and Marion started farming. Together, they raised a family on a farm east of Balaton from 1967 until their retirement in 1996, when they moved to Tracy. Marion and Arden have been longtime members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Marion was admired for her eloquent, classic style. She tended and nurtured her family with kindness, humor, and grace. She will always be remembered for her signature recipes, from holiday cookies to her trademark rhubarb jam. Marion brought beauty to the world through a lifetime of dedicated care to her gardens, planting and tending each blossom with the utmost care.
