Shirley Jean (Pechan) Savage

MARSHALL — An open house gathering of friends and family in honor of Shirley (Pechan) Savage of Franklin, TN, will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Community Center in Wood Lake.

Shirley passed away Monday, March 30, 2020, in Franklin, TN.

Shirley Jean Pechan was born Sept. 9, 1936, to Joseph and Julia Pechan in Yankton, SD. Shirley moved with parents and sisters to Redwood Falls, Beaver Falls, North Redwood and finally settled in Marshall in about 1951. While living in Marshall, Shirley worked at Mike’s Café where she made many friends.

In the mid 1950s, Shirley moved to San Diego, CA where she worked for a dry cleaner. While in San Diego, she met a Navy helicopter pilot named Jimmy R. Savage. Shirley and Jimmy married on Oct. 26, 1958. During Jimmy’s time in the Navy, they would call many places home, including Corpus Christi, TX; New Iberia, LA, where their first child was born; Virginia Beach, VA; Sicily, Italy, where their second child was born; and finally settling in Hendersonville, TN. Following the passing of her husband, Shirley moved to St. Francis, MN for a short time, then back to Old Hickory, TN and her final move was to live with her daughter in 2017.

Shirley’s enjoyments included sewing, crocheting, quilting, doing puzzles and gardening. She also loved spending time with family and friends and sharing many stories with them.

A private interment took place on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at Springfield Memorial Gardens in Springfield, TN.

Left to share her memory are her daughters, Vickie L. Savage (CA), Kelly L. (Jimmy) Holt (TN); grandchildren, Syndey Crews, Wade Crews, and Jamie Crews (all of CA); sisters, Marilyn (Gene) VanCura (MN), Garnita (Tom) Cross (MN), and Carolyn Meiners (MN); brother-in-law, Dave Schroeder (MN); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Shirley in death are her husband, Jimmy; father and mother, Joseph and Julia Pechan; in-laws, Roscoe and Minnie Savage, sister, Eldora Schroeder, and nephew Jim Meiners.
