Gary Miller

Aug. 3, 1935-Sept. 9, 2020

BUFFALO — A celebration of life for Gary E. Miller will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the beautiful backyard he created at their home. Dress casual, comfortable, and for the safety of all guests, please wear a mask (extra masks will be available). Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Gary passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 9, 2020, after a diagnosis of lung cancer in January 2019.

Gary was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Lincoln County, the youngest child of Otto and Stella (Jensen) Miller. He spent his early childhood in the Arco area before moving to Marshall for his teenage years, graduating from Marshall High School with the class of 1953.

He married Carole Moore during a flood in June of 1957, and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly thereafter. Eventually, he and Carole made their home in Marshall, where Gary worked in the automotive industry as a self-taught mechanic for 40+ years. They enjoyed retirement in Buffalo.

His greatest joy and source of pride was his family. As a father to Craig, Scott, and Sandy, he supported their various endeavors, taught them the value of hard work, and the satisfaction of being a DIYer. He especially loved time spent with his grandchildren.

Gary found happiness and satisfaction in making something out of nothing. Gifted in wood-working, electronics, and all things mechanical, his creative mind, resourcefulness and skilled hands led to a lifetime full of thoughtful and unique creations.

Surviving him are his wife of 63 years, Carole, sons Craig (Ida) of Medina, Scott (Michelle) of Orono, and daughter, Sandy (Scott) Fischer of Fargo, ND. Grandchildren Luke Miller, Trent Miller, Julia (Corey) Thonn, Carson Miller, Grant Fischer, Levi Miller, Halle Miller and Sydney Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Stella, and siblings Edna Rasmussson, Jim Miller, Elden Miller, and Joyce Reed.
