Gladys Lindgren-Swanson

DETROIT LAKES — A memorial service for Gladys M. Lindgren-Swanson, 86, of Detroit Lakes will be at 2 p.m. Friday at New Creation Lutheran Church in Perham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Face coverings will be required at the service. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Arrangements are in the care of West-Kjos Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Detroit Lakes.

She passed away Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at home with family by her side.

She was born May 10, 1934, in Yellow Medicine County, to Ernest and Annie Christianson. Gladys was born and raised on the farm near Canby. She had a great love for horses and animals. She graduated from Canby High School. She then went on to graduate from Gail Institute with a degree in Secretary and Administrative Science. She married Roy J. Lindgren Jr. on Aug. 29, 1953. They lived in Minneapolis until Roy completed Dental School. They settled in Marshall where they raised two children, Eric and Karn. Gladys remained in Marshall until Roy passed in 1993. Following his death, she moved to Alexandria where she eventually met Darryl Swanson of Detroit Lakes.

Gladys and Darryl married on Oct. 15, 1994, at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They made their home in Detroit Lakes where they enjoyed many years together. They traveled and spent time at the lake. She loved to be with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Darryl Swanson; Gladys had two children Eric (Patti) Lindgren and their three daughters; Karn (Tim) Hitchings and their two daughters; Darryl’s five children Steve (Debbe) Swanson and their five children; Jeff (Dona) Swanson and their three children; Ann Swanson; Beth (Tim) Weaver and their three children; Sue Swanson; 15 great-grandchildren, and sister, Gina Kragness of Marshall.

Gladys was preceded in death by parents Ernest and Annie, brother Russell, and husband, Roy.
