Dr. Timothy Eugene Nealy passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. He was fortunate to be surrounded by his wife, sister, and children in the hours leading to his death.

He was born in Adrian to Dr. Donald and Ellen Nealy. Dr. Nealy graduated from Adrian Catholic School in 1958 and went on to the University of Minnesota for his undergraduate studies and medical school. He played alto saxophone in the University of Minnesota Marching Band, highlighted by a trip to the Rose Bowl in 1961. He completed his residency at St Luke’s hospital in Duluth.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nealy practiced family medicine all over southern MN. After completion of his residency, he settled in Blooming Prairie with his first wife Mary Kae (Warner) and their three children Rick, Mike, and Stephanie. After a brief time practicing in Faribault, he later settled in New Ulm with wife Mary (Gens) and their three children Sarah, Paul, and Peter. He moved with his family to Adrian in 1986 to take over his father’s medical practice. In later years he would go on to practice medicine in Ivanhoe, Flandreau, S.D., Minneota, and Benson, before retiring in Brooklyn Park near his extended family. He was particularly compassionate about care for the poor as well as protecting the rights of the elderly and the unborn.

Dr. Tim was an avid golfer and a die-hard fan and season ticket holder for the University Minnesota Gopher football and basketball programs. He enjoyed vacations at Breezy Point resort each summer and fall. He was involved in the communities and churches wherever he lived, having volunteered as a scout leader, religion teacher, and, along with his wife, organized various community groups and events such as the Adrian St Patrick’s Day parade, Catholic Youth Organization, and Santa Anonymous programs. He had a key role in the fundraising and construction of the Adrian Country Club in the years leading up to its opening in 1994.

Dr. Nealy is survived by his loving wife Mary (Gens) Nealy of Brooklyn Park; six children: Richard Nealy of Richfield, Mike Nealy and his wife Brenda of Phoenix, Ariz., Stephanie Nealy of St Paul, Sarah Nealy of Cannon City, Paul Nealy and his wife Stacy of Fridley, and Peter Nealy and his wife Dr. Rebecca Shlafer, of Minnetonka; a brother, David Nealy and his wife Toni of Indianapolis, Ind., a sister, Peggy Tashima of Blooming Prairie; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Mark, a brother-in-law George (Peggy) Tashima, and an infant daughter, Jennifer.
