Jan. 30, 1934-Oct. 15, 2019

MARSHALL — Services for Rosella “Rosie” Goodmund, 85, of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace First Parish Church in Russell. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Rosella peacefully entered her heavenly home on Oct. 15, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Rosella Elsie Goodmund was born Jan. 30, 1934, to Charles Neels and Elsie (Possail) Neels on the family farm in Coon Creek Township. She grew up Northwest of Russell on a farm. Rosella attended Coon Creek Township country school, District #70 and later graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1951.

On Oct. 2, 1954, Rosella was united in marriage to Duane Goodmund at First Presbyterian Church in Russell. In the beginning they started with very little, milking two cows and farming with family. Together Rosella and Duane farmed and expanded the Goodmund family farm that was homesteaded in 1892 and was celebrated in 1992 as the Lyon County Century Farm. Rosella loved the farm and even after the couple moved to Marshall in 1996, her heart never left the farm and she continually wanted updates. Rosella and Duane were blessed with 65 happy years of marriage together.

Rosella was a faithful member of Grace First Parish in Russell since 1954 and was a member of the Russell American Legion Auxiliary since 1994. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially her flowers. Rosella was a wonderful cook and canned for her family. Family meant everything to her and was incredibly devoted to each member. Respecting others was a trait Rosella considered essential to life and her motto was, “work hard every day and good things will happen.” She was a very loving and caring person who was courteous yet believed in the importance of doing what is right and fair. Rosella was courageous throughout her diagnosis of cancer 12 years ago.

Blessed be her memory.
