Dennis Tolzin

June 9, 1942-Aug. 18, 2019

LAKE PRESTON — Services for Dennis Earl Tolzin are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday with visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Burial will follow the service at Lake Preston Cemetery.

He died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society in De Smet.

Dennis was born June 9, 1942, in Volga to Earl and Ruby (Nelson) Tolzin joining four older siblings. He was raised on a farm just east of Lake Preston.

As a child, he attended a one-room schoolhouse before attending and graduating from Lake Preston High School in 1960. Following high school, he farmed with his dad and brother and was also a partner in Tolzin Trucking. He joined the National Guard in 1960.

He married Rose Kjellsen on Oct. 16, 1965. The two had three daughters: Denise, Julie, and Mitzi and spent most of their marriage on a farm outside of Lake Preston.

Dennis left farming in 1994 and began working at the Lake Preston Soil Service Center before retiring a decade later. He moved to Silver Plains Assisted living in 2014 and to the De Smet Good Samaritan Society in 2019.

He was a member of the Lake Preston Lutheran Church. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s events, shooting the breeze, dancing, bird watching, gardening, and anything connected with farming and livestock. He was always ready with a smile and a story and his true passion was always farming.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; three daughters Denise (Rick) Blume of Hartford, Julie (CJ) Mortier of Marshall, and Mitzi (Dave) Durham of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Aaron and Jared Blume, Alison and Jenna Mortier, and Lily, Laney, and Kenzi Durham.
