Ernest Cauwels

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Ernest Michael Cauwels passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 9, 2019.

Ernest “Ernie Bernie” Cauwels, blessed the earth with his presence on Nov. 19, 2018. Ernie smiled and laughed throughout his 6.5 months on this earth. He loved playing and snuggling with his big sisters, Lucy and Opie. He loved being in water, going to the zoo, and stealing food from everyone around him.

Grateful for being blessed by Ernie are his loving parents, Jeni and Josh Cauwels, as well as big sisters Lucille and Ophelia. In addition to his parents and sisters, he is survived by his Papas and Grammas, Gary and Rhonda Habeger (Madison, SD), Karla and Bob Iverson (Russell, MN), Maria Lavoie (Madison, MN), and Jeff Cauwels (Ruthton, MN); Aunties and Uncles Katie and Jacob Busser (Madison, SD), Jeremy Cauwels and Callie Schofield (Madison, SD), Jesse and Angie Cauwels (Tea, SD), Destiny and Brandon Stynski (Marshall, MN), Chris Cauwels (Russell, MN), Becka Knutson (Sioux Falls, SD); cousins Emmerson, Maddison, Montana, Evelyn, and Eloise; many great-aunt and uncles, and an amazing amount of friends.

Services will be Friday at Embrace (57th Street). Visitation time with the family will be from 3-5 p.m., with a celebration of life and worship service from 5:30-7 p.m. A potluck will follow the service.

The family would like to thank the emergency medical services at Madison Regional Health and Avera Mckennan Hospital for their loving care. We would also like to thank everybody who has reached out to us; our thanks cannot be put into words.

In lieu of flowers, please bring children’s books and items to be donated to local children in memory of Ernie.
