She died Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Ann Elizabeth Williams was born Sept. 1, 1945, to Vearl and Helen (Hanson) Williams, in Montevideo. She was baptized on Nov. 3, 1945, and confirmed on April 26, 1959, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church outside of Montevideo. Ann graduated from Montevideo High School with the class of 1963. In a fitting manner, it was through church that she met Mr. Vernon Garbe.

On July 18, 1965, Ann and Vernon were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. The couple made their home in rural Montevideo, Minneapolis, and Willmar before settling in Marshall in 1969. They raised two children and shared nearly 54 years of marriage together. In addition to caring for her family, Ann worked as a secretary for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and then for Southwest Glass in Marshall.

Ann was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and she was also active in Bible studies and the Christian Women’s Organization. God gave her a creative and giving soul. She loved and supported her family unconditionally all through her life. She would make time to encourage anyone with a smile, gift or a listening ear. She had a knack for decorating and creating beauty in her home and a love for flower gardening. Her enjoyments in life included scrapbooking, reading, calligraphy, playing games with her grandchildren, or cheering on family during their sports and activities. Above all, she will be remembered as being in service to the Lord and to others.

Ann is survived by her husband, Vernon Garbe of Marshall; children, Chris (and Iliana) Garbe of Valrico, FL, Marie (and Dan) Schnabel of Hamburg; eight grandchildren, Dominick (and Emily) Garbe, Ethan Garbe, Abbie Schnabel, Zach Schnabel, Ellie Schnabel, Anna Schnabel, Joe Schnabel, Audie Schnabel; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Vearl and Helen Williams.
