Lorraine Kurth

HENDRICKS – Services for Lorraine Kurth, 96, of Hendricks will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Hendricks with visitation prior to the service at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Hendricks City Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home-Birk Chapel of Hendricks is entrusted with the arrangements.

She died Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Silver Creek Hospice in Maple Grove.

Lorraine Elizabethann Ista was born May 28, 1922, in Walcott, North Dakota to LeRoy and Maude (Hancock) Ista. She grew up in the Colfax area. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1939 and attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead. She married John Kniess and later divorced. She then married Glenn Eugene Kurth on Aug. 7, 1953, at the Zion EUB church in Colfax, North Dakota. They moved to Hendricks in 1953. Lorraine was an amazing artist, housewife, jeweler, gardener, mother and teacher. Her artwork included; rosemaling, china painting, oil painting, acrylic, watercolors, making porcelain dolls, stained glass, woodworking, crocheting, knitting, copper enameling, sewing and last but not least, quilt making. Lorraine was a humanitarian and loved to keep those around her, especially her grandchildren, filled with happiness and tranquility. She was a strong, humble woman who is and always will be an idol and an inspiration. Some of her life accomplishments were pursuing an education until she was a proud 88 years of age, working at UMCOR every winter, helping those around her and giving her family a strong start. Lorraine lived in Hendricks until March 2014, when she moved to Heritage Lane in Marshall where she lived until June 2017. She spent the remainder of her life at SilverCreek on Main in Maple Grove.

She is survived by her six children, Patricia Carlson of Rochester, Eugene Scott (Marie) Kniess of Port Orchard WA, Glenda Vizecky of Cottonwood, Debra (Neal) Homan of Labolt South Dakota, Tami (Tom) Cooper of Maple Grove and John (Renee) Kurth of North Richland Hills TX; sister, Marge Crowell of Napa CA, as well as, sister-in-law, Lorraine Ista of Fargo, N.D. and her many nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Jill (David) Chao, Jennifer (John Adkins) Christensen, Catherine (Case) Unfried, Gordon (Stephanie) Vizecky, Michelle Kirkland, Mark Vizecky, Quint (Erin) Homan, Clint Homan, Michael (Kelsey) Cooper, Rachel Cooper, David (Brittany) Kurth, and Matthew Kurth; great-grandchildren, Abraham Wangnoo, Mary Claire Chao, Sara (Matt Menzenski) Chao, Tahira (Royce) Farmer, Zendaya Adkins, Zachary Vizecky, Gage Vizecky, Autumn Kirkland, Evan Kirkland, Andrew Vizecky, Reid Vizecky, Czarina Unfried, Carson Unfried, Remi Homan, and Callie Kurth and her great-great-grandchild, Mason Wangnoo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; brothers, LeRoy, Adolph (Vonnie), John, Allen (DeAnn); sister, Beverly (Richard) Trimble, brother-in-laws, Richard LaPlat, John Crowell; sisters-in-law, Raychel Christianson, Clarysse (Ronald) Atherton; nephew, LeRoy Ista; son-in-law, Thomas Carlson, and grandson-in-law, David Kirkland.
