Ruby Haken

TYLER — Memorial visitation for Ruby Haken, 83, will be from 4-7 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Hartquist Funeral Home in Tyler. Arrangements are with Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler.

She passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Ruby Maxine Haken was born Nov. 22, 1934, to Henry and Ellen (Reynolds) Lichtsinn in Arco. She was baptized in the Methodist faith on the family farm and attended country school in Arco. On Dec. 31, 1976, Ruby was united in marriage to Larry Haken in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Tyler for the majority of their lives.

Throughout her life, Ruby enjoyed the outdoors while gardening and feeding the birds and squirrels. She had a passion for animals especially all of her dogs. She also enjoyed working on puzzles. Her family was held very dear to her and she loved to spend time with them, especially while playing games. Ruby always put her own needs aside to give more to her family, friends, neighbors, or a complete stranger. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and a great friend. Though she led a humble life, Ruby will always be remembered for her energetic demeanor.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Lorraine Maleyko of Tyler, Allan Sik of Tyler, Cindy (Lyle) Page of Sherburn, and LeeAnn (Shawn) Teig of Lynd; siblings, Fritz (Diane) Lichtsinn of Marshall, Herman (Lavonne) Lichtsinn of Lake Benton, George (Karen) Lichtsinn of Painesville and Tootie “Ellen” Christensen (Lyle Rochel) of Tyler; six grandchildren, Eric, Melissa, and Carissa Haken, Russell Bauer, and Jacob and Leah Teig; and six great-grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Haken, Makenzie Bauer, and Emma and Isaac Evans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Danny Sik; siblings, Melvin, Clarence, and Henry Jr. Lichtsinn, and Lillian “Marj” Popowski.
