Jeannine Halgerson

Sept. 16, 1932-April 18, 2018

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Services for Jeannine L. Halgerson, 85, of Sioux Falls, S.D. will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at 2 p.m. at Arlington City Cemetery, Arlington, S.D. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.

She died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Ava’s House Hospice, surrounded with her children and grandchildren.

Jeannine Louise Kizer, daughter of Clifford and Alvina (Janisch) Kizer, was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Montrose, S.D. After graduating from Montrose High School, she attended Stewart’s cosmetology school in Sioux Falls, SD. She met Daryl Halgerson, a Northwestern Bell Telephone employee, at a Sioux Falls diner where she worked part-time.

Jeannine and Daryl were united in marriage on May 19, 1951, in Luverne. They raised two sons and a daughter. Jeannine worked as a cosmetologist in Sioux Falls before and after marriage, however, they moved to Yankton and Madison, S.D. before returning to Sioux Falls in 1956. Jeannine has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

Jeannine will be most remembered for the unlimited love and devotion she gave to her family and friends. She treasured her children and grandchildren and taught them the importance of a loving supportive family and being “good people.”

The fussy care that Jeannine gave her home was an example for the entire family and neighborhood. She was an extraordinary homemaker and enjoyed toiling in her yard/garden, filled with clematis vines, lilies, coleus plants and tomatoes. Insects, rabbits, and bats were always on guard as she had no tolerance for garden pests.

Jeannine spent many years cheering on her children and grandchildren in sports, especially baseball. That took her to places like Seattle, WA, St. George, UT, Arizona and Florida to follow the players in her family.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all her doctors and caregivers at Sanford Hospital and Ava’s House.

Survivors include three children, Ronald (Diane) Halgerson of Marshall, Keith (Alison) Halgerson of Sioux Falls, Debra (Dan) Zuraff of Minot, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also cherished her long-time friendships with Helen Kennedy, Donna White and the Meirose family.

Jeannine was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Daryl; her parents; and a brother, Raymond Kizer.

Please consider a donation in memory of Jeannine to Grace Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
