David Van Nevel

March 28, 1948-April 19, 2018

FLORENCE — David Francis Van Nevel of Florence passed away peacefully Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was born to Julius and Sara (Regnier) Van Nevel on March 28, 1948, in Marshall. He was the 5th of 10 children. After graduating in 1966 from Russell High School, he joined the Air Force taking Basic Training at Lakeland AFB in Texas on May 1, 1967, where he became an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. He was honorably discharged at Homestead AFB in Florida on April 30, 1971.

After discharge he started Van Nevel Construction grading township roads around the Florence area for almost 40 years.

He loved the challenge and had the talent to fix practically anything. He had a kind and loving heart despite what he wanted you to think.

He is survived by siblings, Gene (Donna) Van Nevel of Alexandria, Irene (Jim) Hudspeth of Olalla, WA, Kathy (Jerry) Lozinski of Marshall, Darlene DeGroat of Balaton, Julie Roby Daniels (John Daniels) of Balaton, Charles (Therese) Van Nevel of Garvin, Pam Van Nevel (Larry Parker) of Rio Rancho, NM, Daniel (Darcy) Van Nevel of Crystal, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Sara Van Nevel and one brother, James Van Nevel, all of Marshall.

He will be missed by many family and friends. In Dave’s words “But hey, whatcha gonna do?”

No formal service will be held, and a private burial will take place at a later date.
