Debra Seivert

MARSHALL — Mass of Christian burial for Dr. Debra “Deb” Seivert, 55, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday with a CCW Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the St. Mary Cemetery in Elkton, S.D.

Deb died Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D., due to liver and kidney failure following several other health conditions.

Debra Jo Seivert was born March 22, 1962, in Sioux City, Iowa, to William and Evonne (Ekberg) Seivert. She grew up in Brewster and was graduated from Brewster High School. Deb attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., where she obtained a bachelor of art and master’s of science with a major in English literature. She later obtained her doctorate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She served as the residence hall director at Lincoln for several years. For the last 10 years, Deb has been living in Marshall. She was a professor at Southwest Minnesota State University and was working on a degree in accounting.

Deb was very curious and had a thirst for knowledge. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed books and periodicals where she learned new facts and information. She loved spending time with her cat, Aiden. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews and their families. Deb was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where she served as a eucharistic minister and a reader. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her mother, Evonne Seivert of Marshall; sisters Kathy Vos of Hills, and Sheryl Vaske of Elkton, S.D.; nieces and nephews: Mark (and Wendy), Kristi (and Josh), Stephanie (and Ryan), John (and Megan), Dan (and Virginia), Katherine, Emily, Justin (and Brittany); great-nieces and nephews: Tyler, Tasha, Dominique, Jayden, Ahren, Brooke, Cadence, Gage, Jordyn, Xander and Dimitri; and special relatives, Tracy and Maddy.

She was preceded in death by her father, William, and brother, David.
