Marie Stoks

MARSHALL — Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Stoks, 87, of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9-10 at the Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton.
Marie passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, as the result of a stroke at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall.
Marie Therese Stoks was born April 1, 1930, to Adam and Bertha (Dittberner) Thielges, one of 15 children. She grew up on a farm near St. Leo; was baptized, confirmed, and attended Catholic school in St. Leo.
Marie was united in marriage to Henry W. Stoks on Aug. 24, 1948, at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. They built a home in Taunton, raised a family and were involved in the community for nearly 50 years. She was a homemaker – specifically known for her fresh bread and caramel rolls. She worked as a housecleaner for “pin money,” and in semi-retirement she and Henry were custodians at the State Bank of Taunton. Marie was active in Sts. Cyril and Methodius CCW, and was the recipient of a Bishop’s award. Marie and Henry enjoyed dancing, playing cards, raising a garden, and volunteering. Marie and Hank moved to Marshall Square Apartments in 1998 and became active members of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church – their faith being an important part of their lives. Henry passed away in 2004. In Marshall, Marie worked as a daycare grandparent at the YMCA, and a classroom helper at Park Side Grade School and Headstart. She moved to Boulder Estates in July 2016, enjoying their many social events and gardening.
Marie is survived by six children: Shirley and Roger Przybys, Marshall, Kenneth and Jodene Stoks, Apache Junction, Ariz., Thomas and Diane Stoks, Sleepy Eye, Michael and Danette Stoks, Marshall, Joann and Mark Evjen, Dawson, and Dennis and Pam Stoks, Norwood Young America; 14 grandchildren: Sara and Nabil Belbachir, Kendra and CJ Porter, Travis and Heather Stoks, Dustin and Becky Stoks, and Casie and Jason Miller; Chad and Sabrina Stoks, and Joel Stoks, Dylan and Shannon Evjen, Taylor and Amy Evjen, Clayton and Cassie Evjen, and Asha and Dan Godfrey, Erin and Jake Schrupp, Barrett and Amy Stoks, and Brian Stoks; 32 great-grandchildren: Jesse Przybys, Zachariah and Mariam Belbachir; Gracie, Greta and Garrett Stoks; Colin, Kadin, Landin, and Westin Stoks; Leyton and Reese Miller; Micayla and Marley Stoks; Naomi and Declan Evjen; Kaitlyn, Amelia, Calvin, Jackson, and Maple Evjen; Hailey, Mason and Vivian Evjen; Henry, Madeleine, and Isabelle Godfrey, Alison and Bryson Schrupp; Finley, Charlotte, and Whitten Stoks. There are two more great-grandchildren coming. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Stoks; a daughter, Baby Marie Stoks; and a great-granddaughter: Madelyn Stoks.
Marie is survived by siblings: Luverne Thielges of Canby, Sister Janet Thielges OSB of St. Cloud, Al and Ann Thielges of Marshall, Lucille and Dave Welu of Cherry Creek, Ill.; sisters-in-law Kathleen Thielges of Canby; brother-in-law Rex and Geri Livermore of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by the following siblings and spouses: Della and Ray Forsblad, Rita and Oscar VanDeWiele, Irene Thielges, Art and Carol Thielges, Donald and Marge Thielges, Matt Thielges, Phyllis Livermore, Alice Thielges, Ralph Thielges, Jeanette and Jerry Hennen.
Marie is survived by the following members of Henry’s family: Rita Stoks of Canby, Dorothy Cull of Heartland Wis., Mary and Francis Van Hecke of Minneota, Vincent and LaVonne Stoks of Marshall, Lorraine (Coquyt) and Hank Goblish of Marshall and Richard and Jeanette Stoks of Shakopee. She was preceded in death by the following in-laws: Margaret and Larry Cull, Harold and Madonna Stoks, Frances and Cyril Vanden Broecke, William Stoks, Donald Stoks, Tom Cull, and Walter Coquyt.
