SLAYTON – Services for Darlene Beers, 83, of Slayton, will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Slayton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.
She died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at the Golden Living Center-Slayton.
Darlene Beers was born on April 14, 1932, in Salem, South Dakota, to Lee and Lorena Dunn Petree. She grew up in Salem and attended country school. In 1944, the family moved to Pipestone and Darlene later worked at the Lake Wilson Cafe. On July 5, 1951, she and Willard Beers were married in Luverne. Following their marriage, they made their home in Panama City, Florida, until 1954 when they moved to Lake Wilson. In 1957, they moved to Slayton and raised their three children. In 1975, Darlene started working at Slayton Drug. She remained there until 2015 when she retired. Willard passed away on May 5, 2012. Due to failing health, Darlene became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton on Jan. 27, 2016 and passed away there on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 at the age of 83. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton where she taught Sunday school. Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family, supporting her husband at the Wheel-Herald, attending her children and grandchildren’s events, and sewing. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Hadley Buttermakers, the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Dennis and Julie Beers, Randall and Karen Beers both of Slayton, and Terry Ann Beers of Wayzata; nine grandchildren, Ryan Beers, Adam and Katie Beers, Laura Beers and Blake Freese, Katrina Beers, Jonah Beers, Marissa and Ryan Baker, Travis and Aretia Senenfelder, Trent and Alicia Senenfelder and Tracy and Ashley Senenfelder, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; infant son, Edward; grandson, Luke Beers; three brothers, Howard, Harold and Harland Petree and niece, Julie Petree.
