SLAYTON – Services for Cleota Platt, 90, of Slayton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton with a CDA Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Burial is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton.
Cleota passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton.
Cleota Platt was born April 17, 1925, in Slayton to Walter and Ethel (Gray) Samuelson. She grew up on the family farm in Manson Township and attended Prairie Hope Country School District 112 and later graduated from Slayton High School in 1942. Following high school Cleota worked for Dr. Doms and Dr. Pierson until 1951. On June 12, 1948, she and Bernard Platt were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton where they owned and operated Bernie’s Cities Services Station. In 1965 Cleota went to work at the Slayton Region 8 office. She retired in 1985. Bernard passed away on Feb. 20, 1995. Following Bernard’s death Cleota remained in their home. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church and was active in the CCW and the Catholic Daughters of America. Cleota volunteered many hours of service to the Murray County Hospice, RSVP and at the Golden living Center in Slayton. Cleota enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Joan Andrews of Duluth, Jim and Laura Platt of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jerry and Dawn Platt of Willmar and Jean and Rod DeZeeuw of Eden Prairie; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three siblings and their spouses; Marjorie Gehlsen of Slayton, David and Marilyn Samuelson of Slayton and Mildred and Henry Hay of Walnut Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bernard, two brothers, Lewis Samuelson and Harvey and Virginia Samuelson, one sister, Maebelle and George Carlson and two brothers-in-law, Palmer Peterson and Gordon Gehlsen.
