Duane Jacobson

Nov. 10, 1927-Nov. 17, 2013

MARSHALL – Services for Duane Merle Jacobson, 86, of Marshall, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday with a 7 p.m. prayer service followed by Masonic service at the Hamilton Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Military honors will be furnished by American Legion Post 113. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.

He died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.

Duane was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Grand Meadow to Peter and Alice (Johnson) Jacobson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1944. He attended Luther College for a year and on Sept. 21, 1945, entered the United States Navy and served his country until his honorable discharge on Nov. 9, 1948.

On Dec. 19, 1948, Duane was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Rae Maren Olson, in Grand Meadow. To this union were born three children, namely, Lorrie, Janet and Tom. Duane’s career was with the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a radio technician.

The love of Duane’s life was his wife and family. His enjoyments and hobbies were spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, playing cards and games, wood carving, genealogy, reading, traveling, and exercising at the YMCA.

Duane was a faithful and active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Masonic Delta Lodge No. 119, Commandery of Knights Templar, Zurah Shrine Club, Lona Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star, Marshall Toastmaster Club and the wood carvers club.

Survivors include his wife, Maren of Marshall; his children, Lorrie (and Carl) Davis of The Woodlands, Texas, Janet (and Melecio) Bugarin of Dodge Center and Tom (and Joni) Jacobson of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Matthew Baisley and Michele Baisley of Denver, Colo., Megan (and Mitch) Sibley of Dallas, Texas; C1C Spencer Jacobson of USAF Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., Elliot Jacobson and Max Jacobson of Alexandria; sister, Doris Anderson of Minneapolis; as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Maurice, Everett, Vernon and Ronald, and son Peter Jacobson.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
