Goodwill shoe and mitten party is today

Today will mark 10 years that Goodwill of the Great Plains has distributed brand new shoes, socks, hats, and mittens to children in need in Marshall. This annual event started in 1941 by the late John Perry Hantla in Sioux City, Iowa.

Shoes and mittens are given to more than 50 children ages 5 through 11 from the Marshall area, which have been personally invited to our event. Each of the Goodwill stores in our four-state region will be hosting their own shoe and mitten party to serve children in their communities. There are 17 communities in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota making the total over 3,000 children served.

The Marshall Goodwill of the Great Plains shoe and mitten party will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the Goodwill store, 1200 E. Main St.

Volunteers will help distribute shoes, socks, hats, mittens, and treats to the children.
