Minneota investigating vandalism at Kompelien Field

By Deb Gau 1 min read

MINNEOTA -- This week, Minneota Public Schools announced it is seeking information on vandalism to a statue at K.P. Kompelien Field. A post on the Minneota school district's Facebook page said the school district was asking for the public's help in identifying those responsible for graffiti to the Viking statue at the field.

The vandalism happened sometime last weekend, the school district's post said.

Minneota Superintendent Scott Monson told the Independent on Thursday that he was unable to answer specific questions about the vandalism because the incident is currently under investigation by the school district and law enforcement. On Thursday, Marshall Radio reported that a coach discovered painted graffiti on the Viking statue on Sunday while preparing to winterize the field.

Monson told the Independent that the school district is looking into how to address the damage to the statue.

On Facebook, the school district said it is working with law enforcement to try and identify those responsible for the vandalism, and a monetary reward was being offered for information that leads to their identification. Members of the public were encouraged to contact Activities Director Patty Myrvik, Minneota High School Principal Heather Anderson, or Monson with information.
