Hearing held in Stidman case

By Deb Gau 2 min read

MARSHALL -- The case of a former Marshall man charged with drug possession is under consideration by a judge after a Tuesday hearing, Lyon County District Court records said.

A hearing was held Tuesday afternoon for Dante Maurice Stidman. Stidman has pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree drug possession and third degree drug possession. A criminal complaint alleges that a search executed at Stidman's apartment on Jan. 14 found a crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine in the bathroom toilet. The complaint also alleged the water from the toilet bowl field-tested positive for meth.

During Tuesday's hearing, attorneys gave arguments in court regarding a motion filed by Stidman's defense in September, court records said. The motion called for prosecutors to disclose reports and other information involving a confidential informant mentioned in search warrant applications and police reports in Stidman's case.

Court documents said Judge Michelle Dietrich would take the matter under advisement, and would issue an order as soon as possible.

Assistant public defender Jeremy Blackwelder also said that Tuesday would be his last appearance on the case. Alexis Schroeder would be taking over for Blackwelder, court records said. This fall, the Minnesota Governor's Office announced that Blackwelder will be appointed as a judge to fill a vacancy in the Fifth District Court.

Trial dates in Stidman's case are still set for November, according to court records. A settlement conference is scheduled for Oct. 27, and a pre-trial hearing for Nov. 10, court records said.
