GRANITE FALLS -- A former paraprofessional and coach at Yellow Medicine East High School is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct, district court records said.
A criminal complaint filed Sept. 25 alleges Javon Duncan Hering, 31, of Sacred Heart, had a sexual relationship with a juvenile when she was 15 and 16.
Hering faces charges in two separate court files in Yellow Medicine and Renville counties, court records say. In Yellow Medicine County, Hering is charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, second degree criminal sexual conduct, and two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct. In Renville County, Hering is charged with one count of third degree criminal sexual conduct.
The criminal complaints against Hering allege that a juvenile victim said Hering had a sexual relationship with her over a period of four months when she was 15 and 16 years old. The complaint alleged that the juvenile first met Hering when he was a paraprofessional and golf coach at Yellow Medicine East High School, and they began spending time together after she added Hering on Snapchat in June.
The complaint says Hering's employment with the YME school district ended this spring.
The complaint alleges that Hering and the juvenile traveled together, attending events like a concert and the Minnesota State Fair. The complaint alleges that Hering also paid the juvenile to babysit.
A future hearing date for the Yellow Medicine County charges against Hering is set for Oct. 12. A settlement conference for the Renville County charge is set for Nov. 2.
