Granite Falls man pleads guilty in St. Paul assault

ST. PAUL — A Granite Falls man has pleaded guilty to charges of second degree criminal sexual conduct in Ramsey County, court records said.

Keanu Avery Labatte, 20, had been charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, domestic assault by strangulation, and making threats of violence in an incident at St. Catherine’s University at St. Paul in September. A criminal complaint alleged Labatte held his girlfriend against her will for three days and assaulted her. The victim was able to contact law enforcement when she was allowed to go to the cafeteria for food, the complaint alleged.

Labatte was also on probation for a restraining order violation in Yellow Medicine County in 2023, court documents said.

At a July 12 hearing, Labatte pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. The court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation, and a sentencing hearing was set for Nov. 4.
