Man charged in high-speed chase appears in court

LINCOLN COUNTY -- A Brookings, S.D. man charged in connection with a high-speed motorcycle chase west of Tyler appeared in Lincoln County District Court on Thursday. A future court date for Carson Russell Bundy, 20, was set for Sept. 14, court records said.

Bundy is charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, careless driving and speeding. A criminal complaint alleged that a Tyler Police officer observed Bundy accelerate his motorcycle to speeds greater than 100 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 14 west of Tyler. When the vehicle reached 130 miles per hour, Tyler Police ended their pursuit, and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office pulled Bundy over, the complaint alleges.

At Thursday's court appearance, a forfeiture hearing was also held regarding Bundy's motorcycle. The court found that the county would keep possession of the vehicle until the end of Bundy's criminal case.
