Marshall man pleads guilty to hands-free violation in crash

MARSHALL — A Marshall man pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of a hands-free device violation. Lyon County court records said the man lost control of his vehicle while using a cell phone, and crashed into a building in Marshall on Nov. 30.

Wesley Mengmo Vue, 19, appeared in Lyon County District Court on Feb. 21, court records said. Vue pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of using a wireless communications device while driving. On Nov. 30, a minivan driven by Vue struck a mailbox on the 200 block of London Road, the stop sign at the intersection of London Road and Madrid Street, a vehicle parked in a driveway along London Road, and a garage wall on the 300 block of London Road, a police report said. Vue told law enforcement that he was looking at his phone to control his music, when he started to leave the roadway, panicked and accidentally accelerated the vehicle, the police report said.

Court records said Vue received a stayed sentence of 90 days in jail, a $100 fine, and one year of probation with conditions including that he pay restitution and be law-abiding.
