Fire damages outbuildings at Ghent farm

GHENT — Area fire departments were called to the scene of a fire that damaged outbuildings at a farm south of Ghent on Monday. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to save most of the property inside the structures, Ghent Fire Chief Cory Crowley said.

The fire was reported Monday afternoon on the 3000 block of Minnesota Highway 68 between Marshall and Ghent. Crowley said fire from a brush pile that was being burned on the property spread to structures including a shed and barn. The Ghent, Marshall, Minneota and Lynd Fire Departments all responded at the scene. Members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol temporarily closed down traffic on the highway so firefighters and tanker trucks could get to and from the farm site.
