Stranded boater rescued in Granite Falls

GRANITE FALLS — Emergency responders rescued a Sacred Heart man whose boat was disabled on the Minnesota River on Friday, the Yellow Medicine Sheriff’s Office said. Granite Falls firefighters were able to use a rescue boat to bring Andrew Hanson, 24, back to shore, a news release said.

Around 1:37 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call from Hanson, saying his boat was disabled in the river east of the Memorial Park boat access in Granite Falls. Hanson said he was holding on to a tree branch, but was unable to get the boat to shore.

The Granite Falls Fire Department, Granite Falls Ambulance, Granite Falls Police and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the area. Firefighters used a rescue boat to bring Hanson back to the landing, the Sheriff’s Office said. Hanson was uninjured, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Firefighters were also able to retrieve the disabled boat, and bring it back to the owner, the Sheriff’s Office said.
