Volunteers scour desert for Nancy Guthrie
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The disappearance of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother three weeks ago has inspired volunteers to launch their own searches in the dense desert near her home just outside Tucson. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says it appreciates the concern for Nancy Guthrie. But it asked people inquiring about becoming volunteers to give investigators space to do jobs that are best left to the professionals. Experts say volunteers can be force multipliers but should undergo background checks and be trained to work under the direction of law enforcement.
