Firefighter: He warned brush fire wasn’t out
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles firefighter has testified that the ground was still smoldering from a brush fire days before a massive wildfire exploded last year in Pacific Palisades. Scott Pike’s testimony during a deposition in a lawsuit against the city by fire victims was made public this week. He says he told colleagues the ground was still hot when he was sent to help clean up a brush fire on Jan. 2, 2025. Authorities say that fire reignited on Jan. 7 to become the most destructive blaze in city history. An attorney for the plaintiffs says other firefighters didn’t corroborate Pike’s account.
