Okla. man firing gun in yard shoots neighbor
COMANCHE, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma man has been charged with manslaughter after authorities say he fatally shot his neighbor during target practice with a gun he’d purchased for himself as a Christmas gift. Thirty-three-year-old Cody Wayne Adams was charged Friday in Stephens County with first-degree manslaughter. He was booked into jail and later released on a $100,000 bond. According to a sheriff’s affidavit, Adams told investigators he was target shooting with a .45-caliber handgun around the time Sandra Phelps was shot while holding a child on the front porch of a nearby home. A message left with Adams’ attorney wasn’t immediately returned.
